Adobe After Effects: Complete Guide

Adobe After Effects is a digital motion graphics and compositing software published by Adobe Systems, used in the post-production process of filmmaking and television production. Its main uses are the origination of 2D and 2.5D animation, visual effects compositing and finishing (image adjustment, color correction, etc…).

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to setting up a project and importing media, and he will also be able to become familiar with different motion type and style.

  • Add Layers to the composition panel
  • Animate Position, (scale, position, rotation, opacity)
  • Preview the animation
  • Navigate between key frames
  • Time stretching
  • Recompose

Explanation & Practical activities:

The learner have to set up a project, import and animate media elements.

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to learn the key animation basic and manage the composition view and be able to easily slow down or speed a video and keyframe sequence.

Objectives:

  • Create text animators; Range selectors
  • Animate text position, rotation, and opacity
  • Randomize the order of characters
  • Work with selection shapes
  • Animate text blur and tracking
  • Text on a path
  • Add the wiggly selector

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to create and animate a text and shapes.

  • Camera movement 
  • Auto-Orient
  • Motion blur
  • Motion and camera tracking
  • Roving key frames
  • Time-Reverse key frames
  • Time display and timecode

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 1: Create a text (3D) with a camera movement.

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to use the camera, track and add depth to the scene.

Objectives:

  • Apply Easy Ease In
  • Separate dimensions
  • Add the foreground layers
  • Duplicate and replacing layers
  • More precise placement; snapping and grids
  • Add solid layers
  • Apply, copy, and paste effect

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 1: Create a landscape scene from 2D to 3D by separating every element in the picture to three layers on photoshop and adding them into Adobe After Effects.

Result:
At the end of this session, the learner will be able to transform a 2D picture into 2.5D.

  • Use paths
  • Use fill and stokes
  • Fill colors
  • Animate along a path
  • Animate on a path from a shapes

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 2: Draw lines and shapes and animate them along a path.

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will learn about the pen tool and paths, fill and stroke effects that he can apply to the shapes.

  • Use transitions preset
  • Use effect and mattes
  • Track mattes
  • Color effect
  • Making a lower third

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 3: Create and animate a Lower Third by using effects and mattes.

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to be familiar with effects and presets in After Effects and create Lower Third and adjust the color of the video footage.

  • Apply effects
  • Blend modes
  • Effects and solids
  • Behavior presets
  • Layer styles
  • Adjustment layers

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to use blending mode, know how adjustment layers work and how can be used to apply an effect to an entire composition.

Objectives:

  • Create a liquid motion graphic
  • Create liquid text
  • Animate shape morph
  • Create effects (VFX effects: fire, rain, explosions)
  • Camera shake

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 4: The learner has to add a VFX and camera shape to a logo he chooses.

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to use a simple and quick method to create shape morph animation and transition that he can apply to any shape. Add special effects to his videos.

Objectives:

  • Masking tools; create mask shapes
  • Free transform points
  • Mask in the Layer panel; Ellipse tool
  • Make feather
  • Animate a mask path
  • Create a vignette; Mask expansion
  • Mask with the pen tool
  • Effect a masked area

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 5: The learner have to creat a glass into a liquid motion.

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to create masks and basic shapes to create elaborating and complex images and scenes.

  • Alpha track matte
  • Nest a track matte composite
  • Luma Track Matte
  • Color Keying; key light; green screen
  • Key Cleaner and advanced spill suppressor
  • Effects with track mattes and stencils
  • Create transparency

Explanation & Practical activities:

Project 6: make a news studio video with 3 elements.

Result:
At the end of this session, the learner will be able to use Luma and Alpha mattes to create portal FX and add realistic reflection.

Objectives:

  • Render under the hood
  • Adobe media encoder
  • Render movies
  • Render sequences
  • Issues that affect image quality
  • Flicker

Result:

At the end of this session, the learner will be able to export out a video for his desired platform with a proper render setting.
